This week we will be looking at Mark 2:23-28, another conflict story between Jesus and the teachers of the Law. We have witnessed the conflicts of Jesus forgiving sins, keeping company with sinners, and not fasting like the other groups of disciples. This week we see Jesus' disciples once again in trouble, this time for working on the Sabbath. Yet again we see Jesus challenging their legalistic view with some profound comments.
As you study the passage dive into some of these questions:
What was the purpose of the Sabbath? When was it created? How did the observance of the Sabbath change throughout the history of Israel?
What was the Law surrounding the Sabbath?
The Sabbath was given to man as a gift. What should be our response in using that gift when observing the Sabbath?
