This week we are beginning our portrait of Jesus as King! We will see later that this is more specifically, Jesus as the Rejected King.
Our passage in Mark 11:1-11 describes the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem riding on a donkey. What does all of this mean? There is clearly an element to this entrance in the celebration itself that identifies Jesus as the Messiah King. But why on a donkey? Why must the donkey be unridden? In preparation for this Sunday read through a few other passages that connect with the theme of unridden/unyolked animals and their role as well as a prophecy of this very story. Numbers 19:2, Deuteronomy 21:3, 1 Samuel 6:7, and Zechariah 9:9.
