This week we are jumping back into our series through Mark looking at our 3rd portrait, Jesus as Messiah. The end of our last movement, Peter answers Jesus when asked, "Who do you say I am?" and Peter responds that Jesus is the Messiah. Our passage this week recounts Jesus going with Peter, James and John up a mountain where Jesus is transfigured before them and they see Elijah and Moses as well. They also are covered in God's glory cloud as they hear God speak to them saying, "This is my Son whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him."

What parallels do we see in this story with Moses going up the mountain in Exodus 24 and Moses coming down in radiant glory in Exodus 34?

Why are Elijah and Moses there? Read Deuteronomy 18:15 and Malachi 4:4-6.

Why is Jesus glorification on the mountain surrounded by predictions of his death and suffering? The disciples don't understand. How much do we understand what it means that we will have to suffer with Christ as well?
