This week, we are diving deeper into the furniture of the Tabernacle in Exodus 25:10-30:38. Why does the furniture matter? Why is there so much written about the description and construction of these pieces of furniture? As we covered last week, each points back to Eden, the place where Heaven and Earth were one and where God began dwelling with his creation. Each piece of the furniture brings those memories back to mind. But what is going on with the Ark of the Covenant? Why so much Gold? Why is there cherubim on the lid and the curtains? What is the lamp stand for? What is the bread of the presence? Why is there an altar of incense and an altar of burnt offering?

These did not all exist to create a complicated mechanism for the priests to follow in order to keep God happy.

Every part of the furniture helps describe the relationship that Yahweh has with His people. That through the sacrificial system, God was giving them a way to remind them of and deal with their moral brokenness and call them into lives of perpetual surrender in relationship with Him.
