This week we are looking at the 10 Commandments in Exodus 20:1-17. These are the first of all 612 commandments that Yahweh is about to give the Israelites at Mount Sinai and the Lord speaks them out loud to all of Israel in the thunder, cloud, and smoke surrounding the mountain as they timidly approach the foot of Sinai.

They are not yet inscribed on the tablets as they will soon be, but in the story, they serve as the foundational statutes on which Israel will build its relationship with Yahweh. All of which deal with our relationship as image bearers of Yahweh. The 10 Commandments teach us how to bear God's image. They teach us who He is and what He is like and what he requires so that we would bear His image well.

What do the 10 commandments teach us about how we relate to God? And what do they teach us about how we are to represent God to others? And when it comes to controlling our actions and desires, how do we do that?

Why would God give his people commandments that he knew they weren't going to be able to follow? Focus on the fact that he did give them these commandments and still entered into a covenant relationship with them. Consider the great blessing that we can find in that fact.
