This Sunday we will be looking at another well known story within the Gospels: Jesus walking on Water.

Why does Jesus walk on the water? What is the purpose of this story? Is it just some kind of stunt that Jesus did to show off and frighten his disciples? 

This story is actually filled with Old Testament imagery pointing to the true nature of Jesus' identity. Reda through some of these passages and reflect on what Jesus is doing in this passage: Job 9:8, Isaiah 43:16, 51:10, Habbakuk 3:15, Psalm 77:19-20.

What did it mean that Jesus was about to pass by them? Consider these Old Testament uses of this phrase in Exodus 33:19-34:7 and 1 Kings 19:11-12
